Publicity Goes Astray.

In RKO’s latest comedy, “The Nitwits," featuring Robert Woolsey and Bert Wheeler, there’s a running gag about a criminal-at-large known as “The Black Spider,” When the picture played at Dallas, Texas, the manager of the theatre coined a bright advertisement: Two Free Passes will be given to every person bringing a Black Widow spider to this theatre during the run of “The Nitwits.” The first applicant for the passes was a biologist who called and said to hold him 2000 tickets. The collector had over 1000 of the poisonous spiders cooped-up. After paying him off, the management promptly cancelled 'the advertisement in the next morning's papers.
