“1935 REVEILLE”
BRIGHT NEW PLYMOUTH REVUE. Playing for the fourth night at New Plymouth the “1935 Reveille’’ was again a distinct triumph last night. Opening with typical “Reveille” negro airs, the show went with a swing from the opening chorus. The producer and performers, especially the younger members of the revue, who did their part with surprising zest despite the strain of their previous nights’ performances, had reason to be gratified at the result. The soloists were excellent. Humour and fine singing kept the show moving brightly. “Bobby” Richards and “Georgie” Ovenden provided some good laughs. “Baby Bobby” as an artist’s model was unique if not shapely. The mirror dance was a spectacular scene with the “scarecrows” as a grotesque contrast. The solo dances by Miss Elwyn Riley and Mrs. Quay were fine exhibitions, and little Nonna McCartney again won warm approval for her clever dancing. The ballets and chorus were excellent. A notable feature was the very fine stage effects and the lighting combined to form some beautiful scenes. The final performance will be given to-night.
