REPAIRS TO BRIDGE

LIFTING SUNKEN WAITARA PIER. | GOOD PROGRESS WITH WORK. Should the weather remain fine it is expected that by the end of this week that the repair work on the Waitara bridge will be carried to the stage at which the sunken span can be lifted into position on the temporary staging erected to take its weight. It is not anticipated that the bridge will be closed to traffic during the lifting of the span. When the spans are in position on the temporary foundation, the damaged pier is to be removed and concrete cylinders substituted. The cylinders will.be six feet in diameter and erected in tiers, and are to be constructed at Waitara. The work on them will be commenced shortly.
