HAWERA TRACK WORK

NEW PLYMOUTH PERFORMANCES. WANGANUI PREPARATIONS. (By “Limited.”) With one win, two seconds and three thirds Hawera horses collected £B5 in stake money at lhe Combined Hunt Clubs’ meeting at New Plymouth. The heavy going affected many horses adversely, but the outings should work a decided improvement in many cases. Bantry, who should be much improved by his race, will in all probability race at Marton as R. Brough is desirous of taking his Colossus—Just So two-year-old filly down for a run in the youngsters’ parade. The Wanganui meeting will claim the immediate attention of Hawera trainers, as no fewer than 21 Hawera horses are listed in the nominations. Nothin! for Avondale. The two-year-old Notium, who was taken to New Plymouth for experience, came through in satisfactory style, travelling and doing well. He is to have his opening race at Avondale and will need little sharpening up to strip very fit. Ingenuity has wintered exceptionally well and bears a much improved appearance. Her track work suggests that she should soon reach racing form. Ingenuity is to have her first race of the season at Wanganui on Thursday week. J. Fryer’s maiden hurdler Soloist made a good showing at New Plymouth under the heavy conditions and may be expected to show improvement at Wanganui. The two Hawera Wanganui Guineas candidates, Lowenberg and Alchemic, drew attention to their prospects by their running at New Plymouth. Lowenberg is likely to shape better over the longer route. Two yearlings, a filly and colt, belonging to Mr. J. Dealy, Wellington, have

been received by K. Brough to handle and prepare for next season’s racing. Both are by the young Limond—Amyrin sire Resinous, the filly being out of the Arausio—Pretty Girl mare Fairy Girl, and the colt from Little Thrush, by, Birkdale from Pretty Girl. Both are well grown, the filly particularly, and she looks the more promising of the pair. Mr. Dealy has had a long connection with racing and had a useful pair some seasons ago in Mandy and Kilmoyler.
