DROWNING AT EVANS BAY
SCHOOLBOY LOSES LIFE lIIS TWO COMPANIONS RESCUED. FOOTBALLER BRINGS ONE ASHORE FLAT-BOTTOMED BOAT CAPSIZES. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Aug. 30. George McKay, aged 8, was drowned at Evans Bay this morning when a flatbottomed boat capsized in a rough sea. Two other schoolboys,- Arthur Morrison, aged 13, McKay’s step-brother, and Ernest Pauline, aged 11 or 12, wereYescued in an exhausted condition. Morrison was sent to hospital and Pauline was taken to his home in Lerwick Terrace. McKay lived in Buckingham Road, Lyall Bay. His body was recovered about 1.30 p.m. about 100 yards from where he disappeared. One of the boys -was rescued by Richard 'Robert Hull, a Poneke’ club footballer. f After bringing him ashore Mr. Hull stripped and entered the water again to rescue McKay, but he was unable to find him. < t At the same time three men in a dinghy, using boards as paddles, went to McKay’s assistance, but before reaching him he threw up his hands and disappeared.
