DEATH ESCAPED

SURREY TREE-FELLER’S FORTUNE.

UNHARMED IN EXPLOSIONS. A man who believes that he / has escaped death more than anyone else is Mr. George Cawley, a tree-feller, of Chertsey, Surrey. Among his amazing escapes from death are the following incidents: He fell 70ft. from a tree while adjusting a rope, and was unharmed. Twice a lorry in which he was driving overturned and he escaped. Some petrol blew up in his face, but he was not harmed. Some blasting powder exploded prematurely while he was mounting a tree, and only his hands were burned. A lorry in which he was driving caught fire and he ji.mped clear just as the flames reached the driver’s cabin. Recently his house took fire in the middle of the night, and he and his family were forced to escape through a window. “My escapes are due to presence of mind, and not to any kindness of Fate,” Mr. Cawley says.
