In spite .of a wet, neavy ground the game between Piako, and Taranaki proauced some fine hockey. The score, 2all, was, a fair indication of the game, which was largely one of missed opportunities and excellent saves by Both goalkeepers.' In the first spell Taranaki, playing against the wind and ram, was one flown at half-time, Piako scoring from a melee in front of the goal. The second spell was fast and open, play travelling quickly from one end to the other. Piako scored again from a forward movement. Stung by the reverse' Taranaki utl tacked with a will and from a fine forward movement Duncan goaled. From the bully off Irwin sent Duncan away on a solo run to beat all the opponents.
