AMENDMENT TO LEGISLATION.

WOMEN ALLOWED TO APPLY.

(By Wire—Parliamentary Reporter.) Wellington, Last Night.

Provision for women to apply directly for allowances is contained in the Family Allowances Amendment Bill, notice ,of which Was given by Mr. W. E. Barnard in the House of Representatives to-day. Mr. Barnard explained that some deserted WiVeS With little children Were unable to draw family allowances because of a technical provision in the existing legislation making it necessary for the husband to apply. The Bill Was designed to do away with that difficulty and to allow Women to apply themselves for allowances, - said Mr. Barnard. ‘
