LOTTERIES SOUGHT
FARMERS’ UNION OPINIONS. CONSIDERATION DEFERRED. By Telegraph—Press Aswn.—Copyright. Wellington, Aug- 29, Tire Dominion executive of the Farmers’ Union had before it to-day a remit that the Government be requested to run State lotteries in plape of the present art unions, the profits to be devoted to hospitals and first aid. A definite decision on the question was shelved, an amendment being adopted on the casting vote of the president to defer it to the next annual conference of the union. Mr. Holyoake, M.P., said he did not like tagging hospitals and charitable aid ton to the remit. Why not run lotteries for the benefit of the Consolidated Fund? he asked.
