FAREWELL TO TEACHER
GATHERING IN MAHOE DISTRICT.
The Mahoe hall was crowded to capacity on Monday night to farewell Miss M. Kurta, assistant school teacher. Every local • family was represented as well as a large number of Miss Kurta’s friends from surrounding districts. The evening took the form of a social and dance. Items were contributed by school children as follows; Folk dance and choruses, the children; recitations, Marie McAloon and Rhona Mellow; song, R. Marriner, F. Marriner, A. Dorflinger, Eric Mellow, lan Phillips and M-. Marriner; songs, Miss E. Richardson; recitations, Mr. G. Sulzberger. The music was provided by Coleman’s orchestra, with extras by Mrs. A. Piper and Mr. Keith Burrows. Mr. S. Jenkin and Mr. G. Marriner were masters of ceremonies. A leather suitcase and handbag suitably inscribed were presented to Miss Kurta by Mr. E. Cave, chairman of the school committee. He referred to her sterling qualities and her kindnesses to the children. Mr. Ricketts, secretary of the committee, spoke in appreciative terms of Miss. Kurta in all school duties, mentioning specially her goodness to the children.
Mr. B. Hutchen spoke on behalf of the basketball, golf and tennis clubs, in which Miss Kurta took a very active part. Miss Kurta thanked the district for the honour done her and mentioned that her stay of more than four years at Mahoe had been a very happy one. Miss Kurta, who has been appointed to a position at the Hamilton school, was the guest of Mrs. H. Mellow last week-end.
