STRATFORD

Miss LeCren, Timaru, is visiting Stratford and is the guest of Mrs. A. Yarndley. Mrs. J. Cresswell was hostess at an enjoyable “at home” on Wednesday afternoon.

Mrs. R. Masters left early in the week on a visit to Wellington.

Miss Zoe Masters, who has been visiting Wellington, returned on Wednesday night. Mrs. Pickering, Feilding, is visiting Stratford and is the guest of Mrs. Spence, Regan Street.

Miss Ryan and Miss Harper are spending the school vacation at Auckland. Miss Nan Alston, Taumarunui, and formerly of Stratford,' is visiting Stratford. ' ■

Miss Beth Thomson, who has been spending a holiday in the Auckland district, has returned.

Mrs. Collingwood and Miss Nola Collingwood are spending a holiday at Wanganui. Miss .I. Cuthbert, New Plymouth, is spending the school holidays as the guest of her grandmother, Mrs. T. Cuthbert.

Mrs. Swindelhurst, Huinga, is visiting her sister, Mrs. W. Barker; Mrs. S. Whyte, who has been spending a few days at Hamilton, has returned. Miss Kay is holiday-making in the Auckland district.

Mrs. A. J. Harper left yesterday to visit her daughter at New Plymouth. Mrs W. Brown entertained during the week,’ her guests, being Mrs. Vintent and the Misses Loughman (Invercargill), M. Malone, J. Coleman, N. Thorpe, M. Whittle and C. Uniacke. The Misses A. and C. Uniacke gave a morning tea party on Friday. Tl'iose present were Mrs. W. Brown and the Misses M. Loughman, J. Coleman, N. Thorpe, B. Thompson (Wellington), M. Malone, R. Furrie and M. Whittle. Mrs. J. .Cresswell entertained on Wednesday afternoon, those present being Mesdames Uniacke, H. Kirkwood; Spence and W. Brown and the Misses M. Loughman, N. Spence, J, Coleman, R. Thompson (Wellington), M. Malone and C. Uniacke.

Miss M. Whittle gave an afternoon tea party yesterday afternoon for Miss Mary Loughman, Invercargill, who is staying with Mrs, W. Brown. Those present were Mesdames W. Brown, N. Douglas and Vincent and the Misses M. Loughman, J. Coleman, R. Furrie, C. Uniacke, M. Malone, R. Thompson 1 (Wellington), O. Masters, N. Spence and J. Mark. On Thursday afternoon Miss A. Kirkwood gave a party for her niece, Miss Rita Thompson, Wellington.- The guests were Mesdames J. Cresswell, Vincent, W. Brown and H. Kirkwood and the Misses R. Thompson, M. Lyons, O. Masters, N, Spence, J. Jackson, L. Penn, M. Porritt, V. Liddell and J. Coleman. Competitions were won by the Misses J. Coleman and O. Masters.

Miss Dorothy Winmill has returned after spending a week at Hawera. Miss Betty Winmill is spending her school holidays at Kiore as the guest of Mrs. J. Mounsey.

The Portland Auction Bridge Club spent a pleasant afternoon at the home of Mrs. R. Curtis this week, when those present were Mesdames J. Richards, 0, M. Curtis, L. J. Furrie, F. Jeffries, L. Jardine, Spence and J. Cresswell. On Wednesday afternoon Mrs. R. D. M. McDonald gave an enjoyable afternoon party for some of her friends, some of those present being Mesdames G. Hall, N. Douglas, Vincent, J. Fredric, E Rutherford,. D. McLean, F. Jeffries, A. .Yarndley, M. Thorpe and J. Lyons and Miss Le Cren (Timaru). Mrs. H. Kirkwood was on Tuesday afternoon hostess at an enjoyable afternoon party given in honour of her niece, Miss Rita Thompson, Wellington. Those present were Mesdames W. Brown and Vincent and Misses R. Thompson, J. Coleman, M. Malone, C. Uniacke, M. Loughman (Invercargill), M. Whittle, 0. Masters, R. Furrie, M. Lyons, J. Jackson, Lucy Penn, Nora Spence and M. Porrit.

Midhirst Kitchen Evening. Mr. and Mrs. lan Rutledge were the guests at a kitchen tea given in their honour on Wednesday evening. An enjoyable time was spent in dancing, games ad competitions. The competitios were won by Mrs. James and Mr. J. Howard. Mr. James entertained with songs and humorous items and little Peggy Hogg gave an elocutionary item.. Mr. Jensen wished the young couple every success and happiness. Mrs. J. Howard on behalf of the Women’s Division presented Mrs. Rutledge with a dinner service in appreciation of her services as treasurer to the branch. Music for the dancing was played by Mr. P. Brennan with extras by Mrs. Gooch. Among those present were Mesdames T. Laird, R. Meads, J. Tapp, Hogg, E. Trass junr., A. Graham, Irving, Hendry, C. C. Phillips, H. Lutze, Boniface, C. Phillips, Copeland, J. Dill, Phillips, Dill sent., Howard, Jensen, Ogier, James, Gooch, Le Campion, Misses Irving (2), Graham (2), Laird, Askew, Hendry, Howard (2), Tapp, Boniface, Andersen, Ogier. MANGATOKI PERSONALS. Mrs. H. Lambie is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hardley, Auckland. Mrs. H. Burdekin, Wellington, is the guest of Mrs. A. C. Pease. Mi's. A. E. Mahon is spending the vacation at Waipukurau. Mrs. Orange, Wellington, is the guest of Mrs. J. Lambie. Miss Fiona Douglass. is spending the school holidays with her parents.
