When the members of the House of Representatives returned to their own cham- 1 ber after listening to the GovernorGeneral’s speech Mr. T. H. McCombs, the new member for Lyttelton, was sworn in and took his seat at the bench formerly occupied by his mother. Large numbers of petitions were presented, and notice was given of many questions! Mr. R. A. Wright (Ind., Wellington Suburbs) gave notice of intention to introduce the Wellington City and Suburban Water Supply Amendment Bill, Mr. A. E. Sykes (Co., Masterton) the . Masterton Trust Lands and Trust Amendment Bill, Mr. R. McKeen (Lab., Wellington South) the Wellington City Empowering Bill, Mr. W. E. Barnard (Lab., Napier) the Napier Air Force Bill, the Napier Foreshore Extension Bill, the Distress and Replevin Amendment Bill and the Judicial Proceedings (Regulation of Reports) Bill, Mr. E. J. Howard (Lab., Christchurch South) the Christchurch District Drainage Amendment Bill, and Mr. H. G. R. Mason (Lab., Auckland Suburbs) the National Credit and Currency Bill. Mr. H. M. Campbell (Co.. Hawke’s Bay) asked the Minister of Finance whether in view of the financial difficulties of many of the Hawke’s Bay earthquake mortgagors he would take steps to ease their position. The Rt, Hon. J. G. Coates said the matter had been before himself and the Treasury for some days and he suggested that if Mr. Campbell asked the question j again to-morrow or Tuesday he would be ) in a position to give a detailed- reply. Mr. W. E. Parry (Lab., Auckland Cen- - tral) asked the Prime Minister if he had 1 discussed with the British authorities the i question of reciprocal pensions, and if so s would he give the House the results of ” the discussions Mr. Parry also asked - whether in view of the-, statements by the i. Minister, of Finance regarding the satis- ., factory nature of the budgetary position r the Prime Minister would this session rev store all pensions to the original level, 7 including pensions to miners’ widows. 8 Mr. Forbes asked that both questions 1 be placed upon the order paper. 8 The Expiring Laws Continuance Bill £ was read a first time pro. forma. Mr. A. -D. McLeod (Co., Wairarapa) f gave notice of his intention to move that 1 a respectful address be presented to the Governor-General in reply to his speech, s Mr. M. J- Savage (Leader of the Ops position) gave notice of his intention to - move an amendment to the effect that the 3 Governor-General’s advisers did not have 3 the confidence of the House, I The Speaker (Sir Charles Statham) - read a reply from the King to the ada dress presented him by both Houses of - Parliament in connection with the Silver 3 Jubilee, and the House rose at 3.25 p.m. 1 till 2.30 p.m. to-morrow.
