PRIMAGE ABOLITION

OPINION OF MANUFACTURERS. UNEMPLOYMENT TAX INCIDENCE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Members of the council of the New Zealand Manufacturers’ Federation today decided to communicate to the Government their opinion that if conditions permitted any reduction of taxation this year priority should be given to the abolition of the primage duty on all goods imported from the United Kingdom. The proposed Commercial Trusts Amendment Bill was considered and at the conclusion of the meeting it was stated that the manufacturers of the Dominion appeared to be almost unanimous in supporting the measure and that the council had placed on record its hope that the House would pass the Bill this session.

The view was expressed that the Government should adjust the incidence of unemployment taxation in such a way as to ease the burden on the lower paid workers.
