WESTOWN BALL
CHILDREN IN FANCY DRESS. BRILLIANT ARRAY OF COSTUMES. Colour and life and, movement held full sway at the We-’iwri Hall on Thursday when the children of the Westown school held their annual fancy dress ball. The children, garbed in a great variety of fancy costumes ranging from the dainty and beautiful to the comic and original, entered thoroughly into the spirit of the occasion, enjoying themselves to their hearts’ content, while the numerous well designed and executed costumes showed that during the .past few weeks the parents, too, had don; their share. As usual there was a large number of parents and elder brothers and sisters present. They, too, had a very enjoyable time, for the scene was a picturesque one, , as the children threaded the mazes of the many dances, in which their proficiency ■ was a tribute alike to their own skill , and the tuition they had received from tie ‘eaching staff, which comprised Messrs. F. ’W. Gilligan (head)/ A. V. Gilbert, Misses,M. H.awkes, T. Slyfield, I. Taylor and B. Hawkins. ’ The children: had the floor to themselves during the early part of the evening. The grand march was led by Robin Hood and an >ld English lady, who had in their train representatives of all nations as well as fairies, golliwogs, pirates, wheeelbarrdw derbies, animals, etc. Mr. A. V. Gilbert was master of ceremonies, arid the music <ras provided , by Miss Mischefski (piano) and Mr. L. Smith (drums). The dances by the children included You are Welcome,, Cobblers’ Dance, Pease Porridge, Will y-u Please be my Partner?, Sellingers Round, Come Little Partner, Chimes of Dunkirk, linger Polka and Chinese Dance by the junior pupils and Capt. Jinks, Sellinger’s Round, Indian Queen and Butterfly by the senior pupils. The supper arrangements were attended to by a committee under the supervision of Mesdames F. W. Marsden and W. F. Southam. The tables were tastefully decorated with spring flowers, which harmonised with the streamers of green and gold, the school colours. Prior to the adults taking the door, Mr. L. T.
