JUBILEE SHOW
PROGRESS OF ARRANGEMENTS AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY MEETING. The Taranaki Agricultural Society’s diamond jubilee show was under discussion on Friday at a general committee meeting at New Plymouth. There were Resent Messrs. H. C. Sampson (president), J. H. Allen, G..W. Browne, C. Dobson, A. T. Moore, A. J. Luxton, J. M. Ferriday, P. G. Knight, J. T. Goodrich, W. Hall, J. 0. Morton, P. J. Peterson, F. Dcdunski, A. R. Gudopp, T. J. Martin, S. Topless, L. G. Andrews, W. K. Morris and L. A. Alexander. Advice that the Governor-General, who had been invited to open the show, was unable to commit himself to an engagement so far ahead, but that he would bear the matter in mind, was forwarded by the Mayor of New Plymouth, Mr. E. R. C. Gilmour, and forwarded to the society. The Taranaki branch of the New Zealand Friesian i ssociation donated £3 3s to the show prize fund. One guinea is to be devoted to the boys and girls’ class for grade heifer calf and two guineas, subsidised with an additional 2 guineas by the society, to a junior group class. The New Zealand Southdown Sheep Society wrote that a gold medal had been allotted for the best two-tooth ram from a flock registered with the Southdown ? Society. Sub-committees were appointed as follows to revise the schedule for the show and select judges: Cattle, sheep and pigs, Messrs. H. C. Sampson, J. H. Allen, A. R. Gudopp, W. B. Grant, W. Hall, A. Turnbull, P. J. Peterson, L. A. Alexander, H. H. Olson, W. K. Morris, A. P. Lister, L. G. Andrews, C. W. Ruebe, T. J. Martin, J. D. Pearce; light horses and competitions, Messrs. L. A. Nolan, 3. A. Managh, G. Pigott, W. Pigott, W. T. JolL S. Topless, P. Sole, T. J. Martin, A. T. Moore, Percy Cole, C. R. Fairbrother; draught horses, Messrs. T. Smellie, W. B. Grant, P. G. Knight, A. P. Lister. The A. and P. conference notified that at a recent meeting it had been decided that the conference would go into recess in the meantime, Owing to the fact that in future the Auckland Metropolitan and provincial associations would work with the Royal Agricultural Society. The conference secretary had been instructed to collect all duet outstanding at April 30. / . - . A resolution expressing/appreciation of - the work of the conference since its inception was passed. The Taranaki > society decided in the circumstances to affiliate with the Royal Society. Recommendations of. Mr. J. Swainson regarding the winter show ■were referred to the winter show committee. Mr. A. G. Elliott, of the Department of Agriculture, forwarded a copy of his report on the root-growing competitions. Appreciation was expressed of the report ' and the information it contained. The Taranaki Regiment was granted the use of tfye showgrounds for a week-end bivouac.
