SELP-HELP CLUB CARD PARTY. There was a good attendance despite the wet weather conditions at the euchre party in aid. of the Manaia Self-Help Club in the Manaia town hall on Friday. Prizes for euchre were won by Miss J. Baker 1, Miss V. Rushin 2, Mrs. Rothery 3; travelling prize, Miss Chisnail, Mrs. Burrell consolation prize; Mr. H. Dalton 1, Mr. J. Barlow 2, Mr. J. Taylor 3, travelling prize Mr. J. Barlow; Mr. Zulu consolation. A successful social evening conducted by the present and past pupils of the Manaia District High School was held

in the Oddfellows’ Hall on Thursday evening. There was a good attendance of both present and. past pupils, and the evening was pleasantly spent with games, competitions and dancing. Mr. E. M. Marshall conducted the evening programme and Mr. P. Blair was master of ceremonies. Mr. M. Whalen played the dance music. The golf match which was to have been played at Manaia during the weekend between Opunake and Manaia clubs was postponed on account of the inclemency of the weather. DEATH OF MRS. MURDOCH. WELL-KNOWN HAWERA RESIDENT. Mrs. Margaret Murdoch, wife of Mr. J. B. Murdoch, died at Hawera on Sunday after a lengthy illness. She had lived in South Taranaki for more than 50 years. Mrs. Murdoch, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Cameron, was bom at Argyle, Scotland. -She came

to New Zealand with other members of the family in 1882, landing at New Plymoiith. For a short time the Cameron family lived at Waitara, finally moving to Okaiawa, where the late Mrs. Murdoch spent her girlhood. After her marriage she and her husband farmed at Okaiawa for several years before going to Hawera, where Mrs. Murdoch lived for more than 20 years. * , Mrs. Murdoch took little part in public life. She was a popular member of the Hawera Croquet Club, which she joined in its early years, and she was frequently seen on the green until two seasons ago. Mrs. Murdoch was also a member of the Hawera Women’s Club and was actively connected with many of the committees of that institution. , Mrs. Murdoch is survived by her husband, one son, Mr. Roy Murdoch (Te Kuiti), and one daughter, Miss E. Murdoch (Hawera). There are two Messrs. D. M. Cameron and H. Cam»rol!i (both of Okaiawa) and one . sister, MisO A. Cameron (Hawera). The interment, to-day, will be private,
