MARTON SPRING MEETING.

At the Marton Jockey Club’s spring meeting to be held on September 7 the Marton Handicap, the chief event, has a stake of £l2O and is run over a mile and a-quarter. Tire only other open race is the Railway Handicap, of £9O, six furlongs. The day’s sport opens with the Maiden race, of £6O, six furlongs, and is for horses that have never won a flat race at time of starting, the weight to be carried being 8.7. The Otairi Plate, reserved for gentlemen riders, is to be decided over nine furlongs. Besides the stake of £5O there is a trophy valued at £lO. The remainder of the programme consists of the Hack Hurdles Handicap of £9O, about one mile and a-half; Tutaenui Hack Handicap of £75, six furlongs; Spring Hack Handicap of £BO, nine fuilongs, and Farewell Hack Handicap of £9O, six furlongs. Nominations for all events close with the secretary, Mr. Arthur Way, Post Office Box 3, Marton, at 9 p.m. on August 23.
