RACING AT FLEMINGTON
MANY FALL IN STEEPLECHASE. DECISION TO CHANGE HURDLES. By Telegraph—Press Assn,—Copyright. Rec. 6.30 p.m. Melbourne, Aug. 18. The Victoria Racing Club’s meeting was held at Flemington yesterday. The chief results were:— AUGUST HURDLES. HEROIC PRINCE, 10.8 (Douglas) .... 1 THE MIRROR, 10.2 (Zeally) 2 FULHAM,. 11.0 (Sandiford) 3 Nine started, including Sixteen Annas. Half a length; two and a half lengths. Time, 3m 48fs. Sixteen Annas was brought down half a furlong after the start. The rider, L. Hynes, who was severely shaken, stated that Ranclea. dived right under Sixteen Annas neck. NERRIN HANDICAP. METRO, 8.4 (Voitre) * CARDO, 7.0 (Percival) * " CAPE MORN, 7.0 (Mclntosh) * PANTO, 8.11 (Skidmore) *Dead-heat for third. Eleven started, including Greenhorn. Short head; length. Time, 2m 9s. Synagogue and Royal Hunting were unplaced in the Apprentices’ Handicap. Newhaven and North Cape were unplaced in the Three Year Old Handicap, and Palatinate and Cape Fair were unplaced in the Highweaght Handicap. The August Steeplechase, in which 15 started, was won by Harmonic from Pactolus and Disney. It was a memorable event. Six horses fell or lost their riders, resulting in the Victoria Racing Club committee deciding that the . existing log fences would be replaced with hedge obstacles. The stewards inquired into Sixteen Annas’ faU, and decided severely to reprimand D. McCrae, rider of Ranclea, and S. Carroll, rider of 'Ramado, for crossing too quickly.
