OCTOPUS DEATHLOCK

SUCCESS OF McCREADY’S HOLD. MATCH WITH GEORGE HOPKINS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Masterton, Last Night. Earl McCready’s dreaded “octopus deathlock” spelt disaster for George Hopkins when the pair met in a wrestling bout to-night before a packed house. It was by far the best match ever witnessed at Masterton, both men giving a splendid display of solid and skilful wrestling. There was nothing between them until the sixth round, when McCready weakened his opponent by a series of butts and then applied the “octopus deathlock,” forcing Hopkins to submit.’ Hopkins was obviously in a bad way when he came out for the seventh round, and McCready had no difficulty in securing the deciding fall with a body scissors.
