A Gazette issued to-night shows that the population of New Zealand proper (including Maoris) at June 30, 1935, was 1,558,946, comprising 794,198 males and 764,748 females. , , . The population of Cook Islands on March 31, 1935, totalled 16,203, of whom 8284 were mates and 7919 females. The population of Tokelau in June, 1934, was 1’79, of whom 593 were mates and 586 females. The population of Western Samoa at March 31, 1935, was 53,427, comprising 27,605 males and 25,822 females. The total population of New Zealand, her dependencies and mandated territories was 1,629,755, of whom 830,680 were mates and 799,075 females. In New Zealand proper the population, excluding Maoris, was 1,483,948, of Whom 755,130 were males and 723,818 females. Maoris numbered 74,998, the mates numbering 39,088 and the females 35,930. The population of the North Island was 1,009,650 (including Maoris) end of the South Island 549,296 (including Maoris). Excluding Maris the figures were 937,871 in the North Island and 546,077 in /the South Island. During the quarter ended June 30, 193 a, the population Of New Zealand proper showed a decrease of 678, compared with an increase of 33 during the corresponding quarter of 1934.
