CANTERBURY MARKETS
LITTLE BUSINESS IN POTATOES.
By Telegraph—Press Association.
Christchurch, Last Night.
The potato market, which began to show a little life at the beginning of the week, has again lapsed into the moribund state in which it was at the end of last week. ; There appears to be a disinclination for business both in town and country. The Waimarino left two days ..go with a further 7112 sacks, 1662 from Bluff, 1550 from Timaru and 3900 from Lyttelton, so the Auckland market must now be fairly comfortably stocked, about 30,000 sacks having gone north in the last fortnight. A proportion of the three shipments would be macle up of seed, and some went to other ports, but enough went to keep the supply there plentiful for a fortnight. Another ship was loading at Timaru yesterday and is due at Lyttelton to load to-day. As there is no steady demand the market is erratic, and quotations are hard to give definitely. The nominal'price for whites on trucks is £5 5s to £6 10s and for Dakotas £7 ss.
The other markets are lifeless, particularly the small seeds market, which at this time of the year usually begins to show’ some signs of improvement. A halfpenny increment went on to the price of milling wheat on Thursday. There will be a further increment of y 2 d next month, but that will be the last.
