OPUNAKE SCHOOL
SICKNESS MARS ATTENDANCE. Tire monthly meeting of the Opunake School Committee was held on Thursday. Members present were Messrs. S. Boyd (chairman), W. D. Richards, C. Humphries, H. H, Gilshnan and L. Sharrock (secretary). The headmaster (Mr. W. T. Armstrong) reported that the primary roll number was 182 and the average attendance 163.5. The secondary roll number was 53 and the average attendance 50.9. There were two leaks in the high school. The date for the high school dance had been fixed. The attendance at the primary school had been reduced by sickness, mainly chicken pox. It was reported that no assistant could be obtained during Mr. . Clegg’s illness. There was no teacher available. The headmaster suggested that a shelter shed for bicycles was required, because as many as 22 bicycles were used by the children. The committee decided to -write to the board in support of the request. An application was received from a lecturer to give a lecture to the school children, the proceeds to be divided between the school and the lecturer. The committee has a resolution on the books that no itinerant lecturer be permitted to visit the school and refused the request. Te Kiri defeated Opunake High School at Opunake on Wednesday at basketball by six goals to one. -
