DRAMA LEAGUE FESTIVAL TWO OTHER B CERTIFICATES. SEVEN PLAYS GIVEN C AWARDS. First place in the British Drama League festival at Stratford, which concluded last night, was won by “Black Night,” presented by Te Ope 1 and produced by Mrs. F. P. Uniacke. The judge, Mu, Arnold S. Goodwin, announced that only one mark separated "On the Mountain” (Egmont Players) and "Karl Ludwig’s Window”. (Te Ope 3) and he had grouped them in second place. He did not place any of the others. To the first three he presented B certificates. C certificates were gained by "Escape?” (Avon Reading and Dramatic Circle 1), “The Bishop’s Candlesticks” (High School .senior), “Get Out of Your Cage” (Avon Reading and Dramatic Circle 2), “In Port,” “Be Sure Your Sex Will Find You Out” (W.EA.), "The Distant Relative” (High School junior) and “Archibald” (Girl Guides). There was again a packed house last night and three plays were presented:— “The Bishop’s Candlesticks,” “Get Out of Your Cage” and “Folly of Faith.” The last, was not entered in the competition. “The festival, I think, can be considered a most successful one and there has been much enthusiasm and much hard work,” said Mr. Goodwin. “Black Night” was the play that most successfully sustained atmosphere and a general sense of unity, which were primary necessities. It was also very well played. PERSONAL ITEMS. Mrs. J. G. Wynyard, Te Awamutu, and Mr. J. Wynyard, a member of the All Black team to visit England, were ,the guests of Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Wynyard, Cordelia Street, Stratford, early in the week. Mr. H. Smart, Stratford, will leave on Monday to join the ship on which the All Black team will sail to England on Wednesday. Mr. Smart is travelling at his own expense and will accompany the team on its tour together with eight or nine other New Zealanders apart from the team. He sought sanction of the New Zealand; Rugby Union to join the official party, but he was advised there was no official party he could join. He therefore arranged his itinerary with a tourist agency to correspond with that of the team.
