LITTLE TRADING DONE
CHRISTCHURCH POTATO CROP. BIG SHIPMENT FOR AUCKLAND. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. Tire potato market remains in much the same state as at the beginning of the week with little trade of any sort passing. Prices moved little but the movement has been down. Auckland is not likely to want potatoes again for some time, because there was another heavy shipment yesterday by the Wingatui which took 10,456 sacks, 983 from Oamaru, 4500 from Timaru and 4973 from Lyttelton. On top of the previous shipment of 14,000 sacks this should keep the northern market quiet for some time. A limited amount of business has been done between merchants, the basis being about the same for prompts as it was at the beginning of the week and about 5s cheaper for Dakotas. Farmers are showing a little more anxiety to sell but are as yet not particularly keen. They are finding it difficult to meet the buyers and also finding present prices not as high as those of a fortnight ago. Other markets are exceptionally quiet, particularly the small seeds trade, which appears to be dead. Chaff, which remains at £3 5s on trucks, is meeting with little interest, mainly because of plentiful green feed.
