KILLED AT CROSSING
RESIDENT OF LUMSDEN ELDERLY MAN STRUCK BY TRAIN. DEATH FOLLOWS GRAVE INJURIES. INDECISION APPARENTLY CAUSE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Invercargill, Last Night. Thomas Menzies, an elderly man, was struck by the Kingston-Invercargill tram as it was drawing into the Lumsden station at '4 o’clock this afternoon and gravely injured, He did not regain consciousness, . his death occurring at 6.30 P Mr. Menzies was crossing from the business area to the other‘side of. the town by a pathway which traverses the railway line at the northern end of the station when the train drew.in. While he was on the railway track, a .whistle from the locomotive sounded and. it is believed that he was undecided, what to do.- He. was bending forward as the. train struck him and he was thrown on to the platform. The train was not going very fast at the time. . Mr. Menzies was one of the oldest residents of .the district. He was-a Widower.
