DANCING COMPETITION

AGRICULTURAL HALL CONTEST. Great interest was evinced in the commencement of the dancing competitions at the New Plymouth Cycle and Athleti- Club’s dance at the Agricultural Hall on Saturday night. Nearly 100 couples set off in the waltzing competition and were reduced to a final 10 by the judges, Mr. and Mrs. A. Roberts. The first three in the final session were Miss McCandish and Mr. G. Sneider 1, Mr. and Mrs. McMillan 2 and Miss Wilfred and Mr. McCandish 3. The next of the series, the foxtrot, will take place on August 3. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss Cliff and Mr. K. Elliott. An exhibition tap dance was given by the Misses Lacey, Whangarei. A special prize given by Mr. B. Vinsen for the closest estimate of the number of miles travelled by his orchestra this year was won by Mr.. R. Williams, whose estimate was 17,000. The correct mileage was 17,437. Messrs. J. Donaldson and W. Wood were masters of ceremonies.
