NEW BERLIN POLICE CHIEF.
CAMPAIGN AGAINST CATHOLICS.
By Telegraph—-Press Assn.—Copyright. Rec. 7.30 p.m. Berlin, July 20. As the result of anti-Jewish troubles on July 15 Admiral von Leventzow, chief of police at Berlin, has resigned. Count Wolf von Helldorf succeeds him. Count von Helldorf was sentenced to sjx months’ imprisonment .in 1931 for attacking and insulting Jews at Berlin. His first ordinance orders Jewish ice cream shops to close at 7 p.*i. to prevent undesirable demonstrations.
Other examples of Nazi campaigning include the Reich Minister of Justice ordering public prosecutora throughout Germany to counter by speedy prosecutions and heavy sentences without respect to persons all Catholic attempts to split up the community. Fresh anti-Jewish disturbances - occurred At Berlin yesterday. West end crowds paraded the streets, shouting “Down with the Jews.” ' Several were dragged from cafes and beaten. The police arrested their assailants despite the crowd’s hostility. A communique announces that the police will further co-operate with the Nazis to defeat Communist subversive activities and reactionary movements and Bolshevist and Jewish arrogance.
