WIRING REGULATIONS

ENFORCEMENT AT HAWERA. DEPARTMENTAL REPORT MADE. As the result of a criticism made publicly by members of the Hawera Borough Council of the enforcement of wiring regulations by inspectors of the South Taranaki Electric Power Board, the board procured the services of an inspector of the Public Works Department to determine whether the requisitions demanded were in compliance with the regulations or not. At Friday night’s meeting of the power board, the report of the inspector was received. In all but two instances, the inspector’s report stated, the requisitions made by the board’s inspectors were neces-sai-y. In the other two cases, the inspectors had slightly exceeded their authority under the regulations, but generally the rewiring demanded was in the best interests of the consumer. After the report had been received, the board’s engineer, Mr. T. R. Overton, mentioned that while at Hawera the Public Works Department inspector had talked with the board’s inspectorial staff and several misunderstandings had been cleared up. From what the inspector had said, it appeared that the board’s inspectors in the past had been paying more attention to the underwriters’ regulations than to the wiring regulations as a whole.
