ELTHAM GIFT EVENING

The Misses Carman and Mrs. A. Beesley were hostesses at a gift evening for Miss B. V. Gardiner, who is shortly to be married, at the residence of Mr. H. G, ' Carman, King Edward Street, on Wednesday. The evening was spent in competitions, dancing and musical items, with Mrs. Beesley at the plane. Songs were 'contributed by Miss K. Butler and Mesdames Beesley and Neilson (duet), competitions were won by Miss M. Farquharson, Mrs. A. Beesley and Mrs. C. H. Courtney. After supper Mr. H. G. Carnian asked Miss Gardiner to accept a collection of gifts. Mr. J. D. Robertson replied. ■ There were also present Mesdames C. H. CoUrtney, O. Manley, L. A. Bluett, Neilson, F. Evans (Ashburton), I. Mum'by, H. Gardiner, Robertson (Auckland), A. Hargreaves, Misses L„ McLean, M. Farquhar, R. Neilson, A. Brooker, M. Salmon, A. Blennerhassett, M. Verrall, D. Newland, D. Boiirke, M. Mumby, E. Morrison and K. Butler.
