MEETING OF JUSTICES
SOUTH TARANAKI MEMBERS.
ADDRESS BY MR. W. H. WOODWARD.
At the first meeting of the newly-form-ed South Taranaki branch of the Taranaki Justices of the Peace Association at Hawera on Wednesday night there was a representative attendance, presided over by Mr. G. H. Buckeridge. An outline of the formation of the branch, its objects and the benefits to be derived from membership was given, by the secretary, Mr. Malcolm Niccol. It was decided to hold quarterly meetings at the first of which Mr. Niccol agreed to give an address on court procedure. The suggestion that a mock court to give practical experience to the newer justices should be held at a later meeting was favourably received. Mr. W. H. Woodward, S.M., continued from the last meeting his address on the functions of a justice, dealing more particularly with the judicial powers of a justice. In reply to a vote of thanks Mr. Woodward expressed gratification at the formation of the branch as a means of improving the standard of justices.
