MAORIS ENTERTAIN
PURANGI SOCIAL AND DANCE. The Purangi Maoris held a successful social and. dance in the local hall on July 12. Mr. H. Nuku acted as doorkeeper and Mr. H. Mathews as master of ceremonies. The programme was as follows: Chorus, the Maoris; poi dance, Misses Sarah Happi and Mingi Puata; song, Mrs. Teika; hula, Miss Mingi Puata; character song, the Masters Mathews; song, Miss Nola Bevan; song, Miis Velme Caldwell. Novelty dances were won as follow: Monte Carlo, Miss S. Mounsey and Mr. R. Mounsey; statue waltz, Miss V. Rhine and Mr. H. Mathews. Competitions were won by Mrs. A. V. Webb (coffee pot) and by Mr. Collie Crouch (box of chocolates). Dance music was played by Misses S. Mounsey and V. Rom 6 and Mrs. George and Mr. L. Burke. Purangi Footballers. The Purangi footballers played a splendid game during the week-end against Durham Road, the leading team in the Schneider Shield competition. The final score was Durham Road 20, Purangi 6. Mr. V. S. Fletcher was referee. Sheer bad luck on the part of Purangi prevented the score being more even. Personal Items. Mrs. A. V. Webb left on Monday for a holiday at Hamilton. Miss Corkill, Tarata, is visiting Purangi. Mrs. Aldridge, who spent a holiday with her mother, Mrs. V. Caldwell, returned to Stratford on Saturday.
