LOANS FOR FARMERS

SIMPLER SCHEME SUGGESTED.

DAIRY COMPANY ADVANCES. By Telegraph—Press Association. Gisborne, Last Night. A simpler form of finance for farmers was unanimously urged by the Gisborne ward dairy conference yesterday, and it was proposed that the Government should guarantee loans made by dairy companies instead of the Executive Commission lending the money. The subject was brought up by Mr. E. R. Renner, chairman of directors of the Okitu Dairy Company, who moved that the board recommend that application forms for improvement loans be simplified, stating that many farmers were not used to the Government red tape, particularly those farmers who were inclined to be illiterate. After a discussion, in the course of which Mr. A. J- Murdoch, M.P., chairman of the Dairy Board, said the proposal would not be businesslike as the Government would want to know what security was offered, Mr. Murdoch framed the following motions, which were carried unanimously: That in the matter of* loans to dairy farmers the directors of companies are quite prepared to lend money to farmers if guaranteed by the Government; that the matter of loans to effect necessary improvements is urgent and that the resolution be placed before the Dairy Board to put. before the Executive Commission of Agriculture.
