CONCERT AT WAITARA

COMMUNITY SINGING SUCCESS. Community singing and a concert promoted by the members of St. John s Anglican Church, Waitara,. were held in St. John’s hall on Thursday night, and despite counter-attraction the attendance was good. Community singing led by Mrs. Gillespie and Mr. . Chadwick and accompanied by Miss Brough was entered into with spirit. Visiting and Waitara artists provided a number of items. The programme was provided by Mrs. Gillespie. Mrs. Foreman and • Mr. F. Baird (songs), Miss Newton . (pianoforte solo), Mr. J. Joll (recitations), Mr. P. Appleby (one string cello solos) and Messrs. F. Chittenden, Stan. George and P. Locke (pianoforte trio). Interesting Basketball. An interesting game of basketball was played on the Camp Reserve, Waitara, on Thursday afternoon between Norfolk Road and Raleigh senior teams. Both teams were evenly matched. In the first spell the scores were 6-5 in favour of Norfolk Road. In the second spell Raleigh proved its superiority and secured eight points to four. The game ended in a' win for the Waitara team 13-10.
