GOLF CLUB BALL

BIG NEW PLYMdUTH SUCCESS. NOVEL DECORATIVE SCHEME. < The New Plymouth Golf Club ball, one of the major social events of the winter season, attracted many hundreds of New Plymouth people to the Agricultural Hall last night. Perhaps the most novel feature of the committee’s excellent scheme of entertainment was a “gallery” of clever and delightfully libellous; cartooqs of New Plymouth’s prominent golfers, flanked by a strip depicting the antiquity of the Royal and Ancient Game in which the sybarites of prehistoric times were depicted driving from green to green in a chariot drawn by a mammoth. In the conception of the strictly anonymous artist, the natural hazards of those • days comprised chiefly pterodactyls and kindred whose appearance anirhabits would have made the most merry devotee forswear the 19th hole for the rest of his life. '

The committee responsible for the arrangement of the evening comprised:— Mesdames T. Waddell, T. P. Anderson, P. F. Atkinson, W. C. Weston, J. H. Boon, P. E. Stainton, R. M. Monteath, Sf. L. Reeves, S. F. Burgess, 3. D. Power, W. Lightband, C. M. Hill, G. E. CartWright, Linwood, J. M. Clarke, Misses Gavin, Blundell and Cholmeley.

The decorative scheme in the main ballroom Was novel and colourful, effective stone pillars framing the green, sweeping spaces of an ideal “links” inhere strangely familiar figures could be seen discussing the lie on a green in an out of the way corner. Modulated lighting and greenery dispersed With a skilful hand gave a touch of freshness to the room, and a small lounge arranged with special heating at the top of the floor added greatly to the pleasure of infrequent dancers. Gay spring tints of daffodil yellow and primrose graced the long tables of the supper room, where tastefully arranged vases and bowls of jonquils, mimosa and Iceland poppies found pride of place. Daffodil yellow table napkins heightened the cheerful effect.

Guests were received by Mesdames T. W. Waddell, the women’s captain, Mrs. F. S. Johns, wife of the club captain, and Mrs. E. A. Walker, wife of. the president of the club.

Mrs. T. Waddell wore a shot taffeta frock of an unusual soft prune shade. The slim-fitting line was broken by the neckline falling in a cowl in front and in double frills behind. Gold shoes with pitme-colov.red inset trimming carried out the scheme.

Mrs. Johns wore striking wine coloured lace, with trimmings of satin pleating in the same shade. She wore a corsage spray of crimson and dusky pink roses. Among those present were: Mesdames A. L.
