SHIP SPRINGS LEAK
PROBABLY TOUCHED BOTTOM. ORDERED TO WELLINGTON DOCK. By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, Last Night. The . Shaw Savill steamer Pakeha arrived at Port Chalmers, at 10.20 a.m. today from Timaru. The vessel is believed to have touched bottom at Oamaru or Timaru, as she is leaking. As she is drawing 20ft. sin. of .water it is not possible to dock her at Port Chalmers and the vessel was ordered to 3 Wellington to be placed on the floating dock there. The Pakeha sailed again shortly before 11 a.m. Interviewed to-night concerning the mishap to the Pakeha, the harbourmaster at Timaru, Captain White, stated that.it was impossible for the vessel to have touched bottom at Timaru as she was only drawing 20 feet coming in and there was 32 feet of water in the chan-., nel. There was the same depth of water going out and the vessel was only drawing a few inches over 20 feet then.
