RUGBY WITH WANGANUI

RETURN CONTEST TO-DAY EXPECTATION OF GOOD FOOTBALL. , . ——_. I MAORI TEAMS AT WANGANUI. (By “Side Row.”) The return match of the 1935 season between Taranaki and Wanganui repre-, sentative Rugby teams will take place at Pukekura Park, New Plymouth, this afternoon, while Maori teams representing the two unions will play at Wanga- , HUi. ' *> . ' .. The Wanganui teem, which is under the managership of Mr. G. H. Pownall, the selector, arrived at New Plymouth by road last night and is staying at the Royal Hotel. It will return 4 after dinner to-morrow night . There have been no changes in the. Taranaki selection .as originally made last week-end, but J. Petersen, the for- • mer Taranaki five-eighth and Patea fullback, is suffering from influenza and cannot take his place iri the Wanganui back line. He has been replaced by ;T. McCashin, reserve back. The teams will be:— t’ TARANAKI. • Full-back: A. Collins. Three-quarters: L. Edwards, J. Buffivan, J. Ford. 1 Ci Five-eighths: J. Galbraith, G. Half-back: C. Gudgeon. ?' Back row: 0. Brown. c Middle row: B. Murphy, R. Clarke, R. Young, R. O’Dowda, Front row: P. Fastier, G- Fowler, J, Armstrong. • . > ; Emergencies: Forwards, A. Richards and W. Young; backs, J. Ross and C, Brown. WANGANUI. Full-back: J. Morgan. ’t Three-quarters: McClenaghan, bell, Bullock-Douglas. Five-eighths: McCashin, D. Jones-Half-back: Taretana. Back of scrum: jLockett Middle row: James, Mclntyre, Steere, ' Hutchinson. Front row: Makarauri, W. Thompson, “Wally” Thompson. Reserves: Connelly, back; Davidson and Firmin, forwards. The Wanganui team will be a stronger combination than that fielded on June 3. Campbell will be playing instead of Oldham, and, in consequence, the wings will receive better chances from the increase in speed. Taretana, at the base of the Wanganui scrum, should make for a further increase in speed on attack, provided his forwards play up to form. Whether he will display Morgan’s allround ability remains to be seen. Mor- . gan’s removal from half to full-back will* be watched with interest. He possesses the attributes of a good full-back, and is $ being given the chance to use them. 1 Taranaki’s fifteen, also, has been select- » ed with a view to attack by the threequarter line. As the present spell of splendid weather shows no sign of breaking, a game, of unusually high standard seems assured. Much will de-, pend upon whether individual member? of the two fifteens play up to form. '*-• > There has been one change in the Taranaki Maori team, which, left for Wanganui last night with Mr. J. T. Martin in charge. J. Broughton, the New Plymouth Boys’High School full-back, is not available, and has been replaced byP. Toro (Okaiawa). T. Toro (Okaiawa) has been selected as reserve.. Rangiwamp has been replaced by McDonald as reserve forward. The teams are:— TARANAKI! * Full-back: P. Toro. ; ' Three-quarters: J. Pepperell, Tui Fenton, R. Jones. Five-eighths: Tui Robjnson, M. Edwin. Half; B. Campbell. ’ . ■ Back row: J. Awahou. Middle row: L. Taylor, W. Ruahere, D. Ruakere, H. Skipper. T Front row: W. Henare, D. Skipper, R. Hikaka. Reserves: Back, T.
