Miss Grace Webberly has returned to Manaia, after a visit to Mrs C. Walker, Monmouth Road.
Miss Nora Spence was hostess at contract bridge on Wednesday night. Mrs. D. J. Malone entertained friends on Friday afternoon. Mrs. E. C. A; Gaw motored during the week to Wellington. Miss Violet FeavCr has returned to Waitara after a visit' to Stratford. Miss W. Webster and Miss J. Medley have returned to New Plymouth after a holiday visit to Mrs. N. C. Aagard. Miss P. Kelly, who has been on a holiday visit to Inglewood, has returned home.
Mrs. T. Carley, Cardiff, is holidaymaking at Christchurch. Mrs. Ahern has returned to Aramoho after a holiday visit to Stratford. Miss Rhea Furrie returned on Thursday from a visit to Wanganui where che was the guest of Mrs. B. V. Willis.
Mrs. S. Pitt had two tables of contract bridge on Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. L. Furrie was a hostess for contract bridge on Friday afternoon.
Mrs. • Spence entertained members of the ■ Portland Bridge club at her residence, those present being Mesdames L. Jardine, J. Lyons, D; J. Malone, D. Steven, J. Cresswell, A. Coleman and L. J. Furrie.
An enjoyable afternoon was spent in the Avon croquet pavilion on Thursday when a euchre party to raise funds for the club was held. The prizes were won by Mrs. Jenkin, Mrs. Tunbridge and Mrs. Burke. Those - present included Mesdames Jenkin, Collingwood, Lampshire, Childs, Bourke, Alger, Pappiell, Tunbridge, Jones and Adlam and Miss Lampshire.
An enjoyable social afternoon arranged by members ; of the Anglican Ladies’ Guild was held in the parish' hall on Wednesday, when a'short programme of music was given by Mrs. H. C. Johnson, Mrs. Townley and Mrs. W. Harris, the accompaniments being played by Miss Galbraith. Those present were: Mesdames E. H. ■ Young, Cutfield, H. C. Johnson, M. Thoyse, D. McLeon,. W. Harris, Speechlay, Anatis, Powell, Childs, Townley, Rogers and Miss Harris. Members of the Stratford Mountain Club held a jolly dance in -the Foresters’ Hadi on Thursday when there was a good attendance including a party from New Plymouth. ’ Novelty dances were won by Miss E. Wilmshurst and Mr. Bruce McMillan, and Miss Doris Cook and Mr. Bird. The music was played by the • Valencia dance orchestra with extras ■■ by Miss E. Wilmshurst. ■ Some of those present were: Misses J. Macßae, D. Thompson; E. Wilmshurst, K. Dixon, M. Lawrence, D. Cook, M. McCarthy, G. Brown, I. Schweiters, B. • Coward, ■M. Kivell, H. Coward, M. Whittle, B. Hale and D. Mann.
Vases and bowls of spring bulbs and red berries placed to advantage in Mrs. P. Thomson’s drawing-room made attractive surroundings when members of the British Music-Society met there. Glees were sung ■ and ■ items were given by Mesdames F. Stephens (songs), W. Harris . (songs), Stokes (songs’- with flute obbligato by Mr. A. Dick), Mr. P. T. Aitken (songs), Mr. A. Dick (flute solos). Accompaniments were played by Miss G. Galbraith and Mrs. G. Dick. Among those present v. ere: Mesdames - G. Dick, J. Dixon, P. T.' Aitken, Morton, Kilpatrick; W.
