LEPPERTON DISTRICT
GENERAL AND PERSONAL NEWS. A social evening arranged by the Lepperton Methodists in honour of Mr. R. Oliver and Miss .Major,,who are to be married shortly, was held last Friday. There was a good attendance. The following items were given: Pianoforte duet, Mrs. A. Roberts and Miss Pearl Roberts; songs, Mrs. T. H. Carr; recitations, Master Hugh Wallace; violin solos, Mr. Harry Lattimer. The accompaniments were played by Miss Roberts. Games and competitions were arranged by the Rev. T. H. Carr. Mr. Carr, on behalf of those present, presented Mr. Oliver and Miss Major with a box of cutlery. Mr. Oliver replied. The monthly meeting of the Lepperton branch of the Fanners’ Union was held on Saturday, Mr. H. E. Blyde presiding over a fair attendance. Arrangements were made for a field day at Lepperton on July 23. Discussion took place on the dangers of Lepper’s Hill, and the secretary was instructed to write to the Taranaki County Council asking that the road should be widened, or that the obstructions placed to protect the watertables should be removed. The question of the prevalence of blackleg amongst calves was discussed, and it was decided to ask the livestock division of the Department of Agriculture for information regarding its prevalence during the past two or three years, and to ascertain whether there had been a decided increase of cases. Mr. and Mrs. Alf Kilpatrick. Te Aroha, who arrived to spend a holiday in the district, had to return home almost immediately on account of the sudden illness of Mrs. Kilpatrick’s mother. Mrs. W. N. Ackland, who has had an extended holiday at Wellington, has returned home. Mrs. H. B. Lepper is spending a holiday at Palmerston North.
