HAWERA PLAY-READING. At the W.E.A. drama and discussion circle’s evening assembly last week, R. C. Sherriff’s play; “Badger’s Green,” was read, the new circle secretary, Miss Olga Harding, arranging the evening’s programme. The cast included Mrs. H. Walker, Mr. W. G. Simpson, Mr. Reg. Hill, Miss Thomas, Mrs. J. W. Velvin, ■ Miss Olga Harding, Miss Mather, Mr, C. Cummings, Miss Patterson and Miss P. . Morris). Miss Johnston was in charge : of the stage directions. WEDDING SMITH-GRIERSON. i St. John’s Presbyterian Church, Hawera, was the scene of a wedding last Saturday, when Verna Evyln, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. Grierson, Te Roti, was married to Colin Roy, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. G. L. Smith, Whareroa. The Rev. A. G. Irvine officiated. During the ceremony the hymns “O Father All Creating” and “O Perfect Love’’ were sung, and while the register was being signed Mr. A. Galloway sang “Ave Maria.” The bride entered the church with her father to the strains of Mendelssolm’s “Wedding March,” played by Mrs. Blennerhassett, Eltham. She wore a frock of iv French ring velvet cut on classical lines with a square neck line. The sleeves were tight-fitting and edged ith silver lame, the same material lining the short train. Her embroidered veil, simply arranged, was held in place at the nape of the neck by a spray of orange blossom, and fell to form a long train. Ivory brocaded shoes were worn and she carried an arm shower of white roses, camellias, miniature chrysanthemums and maidenhair fern. The chief bridesmaid, Miss Jean wicAsey, wore a frock of Princess Mary blue French ring velvet cut on slim-fitting lines, the flares of the skirt forming a f ” train. The bodice was cut simply with a square neckline, with puffed sleeves to the elbow and slashed at the shoulders, and was trimmed with flowers and leaves of the same material as the frock and silver lame. Miss Olive ' Smith, sister of the bridegroom, was similarly attired. Both maids wore petalled caps, surmounted with velvet ; flowers and leaves to tone with their frocks. Lace mittens and silver shoes were worn, and floral fans were carried. ■ Averill Bloor, cousin of the bride- ' groom, was flower girl and was attired in a Kate Greenaway frock of white crepe- ■ de-chine, and a blue bandeau on her head. She carried a posy of blue and ' white flowers to tone. Master Albert 1 Green, nephew of the bride, was page 1 boy and wore blue ring velvet shorts ' and white crepe-de-chine blouse with ‘ frilled collar and cuffs. J

The bridegroom was attended by his brother, Mr. L. Smith, as best man, and by Mr. L. Grierson, brother of the bride, as groomsman. A reception was held at the Carlton, where about 120 guests were received by the bride’s mother, who wore a brown satin raye frock relieved with gold lame trimmings, brown velour coat with fur collar, brown velour hat and shoes and stockings to tone. Her shoulder spray completed a charming toilette. Mrs. Grierson was assisted by her daughter, Mrs. Green, who wore a bottle-green ensemble, with shoulder spray of carnations and maidenhair fern. The bridegroom’s mother wore a blue costume with a hat of matching shade and wore a shoulder spray to tone. Mr. and Mrs. Smith left by car for. the north, the bride wearing a brown selfchecked costume, hat and gloves to tone, and python shoes and purse. Their future home will be at Mokoia. WEDDING IN ENGLAND JONES-SCOTT. On June 8, the wedding took place very quietly of Lieut. Roland A. Jones, Royal Naval Reserve, only son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond W. Jones, 11 Tire Park, Forest Hill, London, and Daisy Estelle Scott, younger daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Flinders Scott, Opawa, Christchurch. The ceremony took place at Christchurch, Forest Hill, the vicar officiating. The honeymoon was spent in Dorset. The bride was a member of the staff of Woodford House, Havelock North, until the end of 1934, when she left New Zealand to take up a dietetic appointment at the Royal Northern Hospital, England.
