HIGHER RATE LEVY

ELTHAM BOROUGH ESTIMATES. ' INCREASE OF £413 IN TOTAL. An increase in the rates of 5-16 d in £1 on a rateable capital value of £350,000 was decided on by the Eltham Borough Council ori Friday night. Tire total rate amounts to 3 11-16 d in £l, compared with 3 3-8 d last year. The special rates are £69 higher than last year, while the general rate is £343 greater, the total increase being £413. The general rate amounts to £2779 18s lid and tire special rate to £2597 12s 7d, making a total revenue of £5377 Ils 6d available. The special rates are estimated to produce revenue as follows: Hospital £319, lighting £364, harbour £250, gasworks £5Ol, street loans £568, drainage loans £409, municipal buildings loan £lB2. The estimates as adopted provided for £4669 revenue as follows: Rates £2780, arrears £lBO, penalties £3O, Government subsidy £l5O, licenses and fees £326, heavy traffic £l2O, pound, dogs etc. £5O, refund licensing expenses £3O, refund sewerage advances £B, refund legal costs £7, refund kerbside pump insurance £l4, fire board purchase moneys £5O, transfer for administration £515, transfer from water rate account £4OO. The main items of expenditure are: Salaries etc. £BlO, office expenses £l3O, office and library cleaning £lOO, lighting, heating etc. £7O, printing and advertising £74, election expenses £6O, licensing expenses £4O, insurance £5O, audit £6O, unauthorised £5O, maintenance of buildings Health Department £46, legal costs £65, nightwatchman £l6, library £35, fire board £193, traffic, dogs, pound £247, baths £lO, band £3O, Egmont Park Board £lO, discounts £210,-loan conversion £43, contingencies £55, transfer to works department £lBl3, reserves £l6O, cemetery £4O, workers’ dwellings £lOO. Expenditure for repairs and maintenance amounting to £420 was proposed on 13 different streets and £920 for similar work on three main highways within the borough. The estimate 'for expenditure on the cemetery was £Bl, children’s park £lB, reserves £22, Taumata Park £206.
