BRILLIANT BALL
LODGE CELEBRATIONS CONCLUDE. MOST SUCCESSFUL GATHERING. The seventeenth anniversary celebrations of the Loyal Excelsior Lodge, New Plymouth,- were brought to a conclusion last night with a ball in the Agricultural Hall. In keeping with the other celebrations the ball was an outstanding success, well over'3oo dancers thronging the big floor. The regalia of the numerous officers added colour to the general effect. The general decorative scheme of the hall was greatly enhanced by beautifully executed pastel, panels -of stone masonry work, which produced a striking effect. It is doubtful whether the supper room has ever presented a finer appearance. The tables were tastefully decorated with the lodge colours and many vases of Iceland poppies and wattle, the whole effect being very pleasing. Those responsible for this portion of the work were Mrs. J. R. Shepherd, Misses E. Young, L. Blanchette, N. Buttimore and G. Baunton, and Messrs. J. L. Walton, A. Nixon and H. Holden.
A feature of the evening was the grand march. Headed by the New Zealand grand master, Bro. A. C. Blair, Wellington, and his partner, followed by Taranaki district Grand Master Bro. D. G. Sherson, ..Stratford, noble grand of the Loyal Excelsior Lodge, Bro. A. W. H. Nixon, and deputy-provincial grand master, Bro. T. Renton, the big muster of district and other officers presented a stately and imposing scene, moving round the hall with. military precision. Vinsen’s orchestra provided excellent music, while the masters of ceremonies were Messrs. A. W. H. Nixon, A. W. Scott and A. Roberts.
