WIN FOR STRATFORD A

HAWERA HOCKEY EVENT. MANAIA WINS WOMEN’S SECTION. — I TOKAORA LEADS JUNIOR MEN. CLOSE CONTESTS IN FINALS. Stratford A won the men’s senior event from Manaia A in the hockey tournament at Hawera yesterday. Tokaora B defeated Oeo A in the junior men’s final and Manaia won the women’s division, with Auroa as runnerup.

Glorious weather favoured the tournament with its record entry of 70 teams. A good standard of play was kept up, and so keen was the competition that in both men’s finals it was necessary to play extra spells, and then only one goal separated the teams in each game. The winning teams were:—Stratford A,

There was a large attendance of the public, and the organisation functioned splendidly and interest was sustained throughout the day. Owing to a delay in the aiTival of a number of the teams travelling by train, spells of six minutes were played.- . The chief officers in charge of the tournament were: Referee in charge, Mr. M. The cups were presented to the captains of the teams by Mr. H. C. Johnston as follows: Senior men, Winter Cup; junior men Taranaki Hockey Association Cup; women, Catran Cup.
