QUEEN CARNIVAL PARTIES. DISTRICT PERSONAL ITEMS. ; Several gatherings were held last week to raise funds for Princess Margaret. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Bishop entertained a large number of friends at a ' party, about 53 being present. Cribbage , ' was played in one room and euchre in : another. Prizes were given by Mes- •; dames Bishop and Bosworth and Messrs, Young and Bosworth. Cribbage prizes were won by Mrs. E. W. Briscoe and ‘ ’ Mr. S. M. Coombe, euchre pribes by Miss Eva Wilson and Mr. J. Gurcher and lucky number , prizes by Mrs. Briscoe and Master S. Perritt. After supper Mr. ~ p J. Young thanked Mr. and Mrs. Bishop./;'/; for their kindness. A ping pong tournament was held in the supper room of the hall on Monday, : there Was a good atendance; the winners ,; 5 being Miss A. Coombe and Mr. T. Ratahi. Supper was served under the supervision ■J/ of Mesdames J. Dalton, G. Wilson and S. M. Coombe. Prizes were given by Mrs. Bosworth and Mr. R. Schultz jnr, > A flag five-hundred evening and dance held in the hall on Thursday in aid of Princess Margaret attracted a fair at-;../P. tendance. It was the first occasion on >/* which flag five-hundred had been tried at Oaonui and those present enjoyed it. Messrs. A. and C. Pepperill and V. and W. Butterini played at the winning table. ; Mrs. C. Majcolm played the music for the dance and Mr. T. Toro played an extra. Miss I. Cheffings did a tap dance. ■ Home-made supper was served by mem- . bers of the committee. A euchre party and dance organised i by the Opunake Maori Women’s Institute was well patronised on Tuesday, visitorsbeing present from Pihama, New Ply- . . mouth and .other coastal districts. Mr. Roach was master of ceremonies. Dance ,/t music was played by the Maori orches- , tra. Messrs. R. Tito and B. Davies did/v/j tap dances. Mesdames Tai Bishop and H. Butler and Messrs. T, and J. Ratahi.'*, were the winners of the points prizes \ i for the series of four held recently. , Winners of the euchre prizes were: ’ Miss H. Bishop 1, Mrs. Ehi 2, Mrs. F///']? Ratahi 3, Mrs. E. J. Stockman 4; Mrs. / Manu Mitchell 1, Mr. W. Wall 2, Mr. T. ■ Kelly 3, Messrs. Dowdney, T. Ratahi, R. Ratahi, G. Mabey and L. Matthew equal. 1 Lucky number prizes were won by Mrs. H. Thompson and Miss L. Butler and § Messrs. L. Pepperill and C. Topi. Monte Carlo waltzes were won by Mrs. H. Lockley and Mr. Johns and Mrs. Ehi -nd; W Mr. Andrew, a mystery train waltz by Miss B. Bishop and Mr. T. Kelly and . ■/ competitions by Mr. Wilford (cushion), Miss Healy (stationery) and Master E. Mitchell (cake). Frpm the proceeds the committee gave a contribution’ towards the queen carnival funds, for which Mr. ; ,. - L. A. Bosworth tendered thanks. 1 ' Mr. Cook has returned from hoapital » and is progressing favourably.. Miss G. Beer, Carterton, is the guest . of Mrs. W. Pentelow. Miss Wilows, Wanganui, spent a few -j days as the guest of Mrs. M. Barrett last week. f Miss Matha Gucher has returned from • holiday at New Plymouth. i Mr. F. Gardner Toko, is visiting his sister, Mrs. T. Gardner, Kina Road. . < Mrs. Andrews, Turakina, is visting her mother, Mrs. M. Barrett, Kina Road. Mrs. Aish has returned to Tatarair ka.
