Cross-country runners at Christchurch carried out their most ambitious enter-, in the history of the sport in Canterbury by running a cross-country re- - ! lay race from the Sign of the Takahe on Dyer’s Pass Road, Cashmere Hills, to Akaroa, a distance of almost 50 miles. One hundred and twenty- runners took part and they raced in teams of eight, the distance being divided'into eight stages over a hilly course.
