PLUNKET SOCIETY.

URENUI BRANCH MEETS. CREDIT BALANCE REPORTED. The annual meeting of the Urenui branch of the Plunket Society was held in the Urenui Hall on Monday afternoon, Mr. A. H. Halcombe presiding over a large attendance, including Mrs. Franklin White, president, and members of fhe New Plymouth branch. ■ After, welcoming the visitors Mr. Halcombe congratulated the local branch on the good work done since the inception of the branch. He commended the work of the district nurse. Mrs. Franklin White referrbd appreciatively to the work of Mrs. C. D. Smith, president, and members of the local committee. ' The report said it was gratifying to feel that people were taking an interest in the work. The branch had received valuable assistance from all the residents of the district and the credit balance, of £2B 3s must be considered very satisfactory. ' , There, were 28 financial members. It was hoped that the number would be increased, this year. Thanks were due to the Presbyterian church for the use of the porch as a Plunket room, the bowling Club for the use of the pavilion for meetings, and to the Press for their very valuable assistance. Nurses Poff and Cartwright, who paid fortnightly visits .to the district, are popular with the mothers,, who had every confidence in their advice! ' < . ‘ The nurses’ report said that usually the mothers are anxiously waiting their turn to have baby weighed and the , necessary advice tended them. They still had a good deal of correspondence with mothers in some of the outlying parts of the district and they saw some of the babies two or three times a year. The number of new babies for the year was less than usual, but the number actually dealt with during the year , was about the same as previously. The older children visit the nurses regularly and were, making good progress. j. Apart from epidemics of whoopmg. cbugh, summer sickness through which the babies had come thanks ■ to the care of the mothers, there was nothing of outstanding interest to report. The following were the. statistics for the year:—Number of babies, under two years 42, compared with 32 in 1934, new babies 18, babies dealt with. 50; visits to homes, 13, to rooms, adults 233, babies 189; domestic hygiene 87, older children, 123; older children still under supervision, 25; casual babies at rooms, 4; visits to Urenui, 24. . . The following officers were elected:— President, Mrs. S. A. Managh; vice-pre-sidents, Mesdames E. K. Blundell and J. F. Phillips; honorary secretary, Mrs. C. T. Hail; honorary treasurer, Mrs. G. N. Fuller; honorray auditor, Mr. F. D. Des Forges; advisory board, Drs. Adamson and Barclay, and Mr. W. Middleton; committee, Mesdames H. Grylls, G. R. Pigott, P. S. Elliot, E. S. Elliot, C. D. Smith, F. D. Bramald, R. Weeden, G. Carr, R. J. Carr, C. N. Rowe and F. D. Des Forges, with power to add. The retiring president, Mrs. C. D. Smith, was accorded a vote of thanks. The following donations of 5s each were acknowledged: Mesdames R. Weeden, G. Wobds, G. N. Fuller, E. Whittaker, R. G. Luxton, J. Guthrie, E. K. Blundell, S. A. Managh, G. R- Pigott, P. S. Elliot, C. T. Hall, C. D. Smith and D. L. Tate. Women’s Hockey Dance. The dance of the Urenui Women’s Hockey Club was an outstanding success. The bad weather did not affect the attendance. Fourteen tables took part in a progressive euchre tournament, the winners being Mrs. Ted White and Mrs. N- Dempster, and Mr. T. H. Lee and Mr. Ted White. Novelty dances were won by Mr. Lynch .and Carlo,
