ITALIAN MONEY

, THE NEW REGULATIONS. RESTRICTION'ON TRAVELLERS. Signor Luigi Cariglio, president of the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Australia, has announced for public information that the new regulatidns of the Government affect travellers. He states that any Italian subject in possession of a passport can go abroad, without any formality when taking with him an amount of money not exceeding 2000 Italian lire; the whole of this amount may be in Italian currency or partly Italian and partly foreign. - In the event of an Intending traveller requiring an amount in foreign currency exceeding in value the above figure, an application must be made to a bank or an agency authorised to issue foreign currencies, filling a special form in triplicate, one copy of which will be given to the. traveller to be shown at the frontier station. In addition, on this form will be also shown the amount of Italian lire carried by the traveller, which must not exceed the 2000 life.

Foreign subjects cannot take out from Italy an am6unt exceeding 2000 lire in Italian currency, but if they were already in possession of a higher amount when entering Italy, there is no limitation whatever. But the foreign visitor should, when entering Italy, declare the amount of Italian money in his possession, and have it registered on his passport.. To make the position quite clear, there is no restriction whatever in regard to the amount of foreign currency a traveller can take into Italy and again take out on his departure. Should anybody abroad be in possession of Italian notes of 500 or 1000 lire each, on satisfying the banks of their bona fide ownership, they may get Jhem changed without any difficulty.
