VIEWS ON CURRENT TOPICS RECENT RELIEF LEGISLATION. PRINCIPLES OF ACCOUNTANCY. (To the Editor). Sir,—May I correct an error in your report of my remarks at the accountants’ meeting held in Stratford on Friday last. Chat report credits me with the following (referring to the five-year period covered by the Act): “In the'meantime the farmer was paid living expenses contrary to the principles of accountancy.” The discussion was not as to the payment of living expenses. No one could suggest that such payment should not be ihade. The point was: “Should living expenses be taken into account for the purpose of Section 53 of the Act under which the productive value of the land is to be ascertained?” The Act does not say so, but Mr. Coates’ pamphlet says “Yes.” I ventured to say that to take in living expenses for such a purpose was contrary to the principles of accountancy.X —I am, etc., - ’ F. T. DAVIS. New Plymouth, May 18. KING’S JUBILEE AWARDS. (To the Editor). Sir, —There are many people like “Appreciative” who would like to know who made the> recommendations for the King’s Jubilee Medals, and why such men as Ensign Buick, Padre Evans, many social workers and Territorial Force Volunteer Officers who have rendered long and Valuable service were omitted, while politicians of about 20 minutes standing and whose recommendations are not the best were among the chosen few. However, reviewing the whole business, perhaps those left out are not missing much after all.—l am, etc.,
