WOOL CONSUMPTION IRREGULAR. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, May 9. The selection was above the average, report Dawsons, commenting on the wool sales. An outstanding feature was Continental buyers’ special keenness for crossbreds, though Germany bought little. Competition was brisk, but the outlook is difficult to gauge. Tops did not respond to recent advances in raw material, yarns suffering a spasmodic demand. Further rises in wool may check consumption, which is irregular. Worsted mills are fairly prpsperous. The woollen section of the trade, however, is quiet and many machines are idle. The greatest need at the moment is s rise in the price of manufactured goods.

KEEN DEMAND IN AUSTRALIA. , Brisbane, May 10. The wool sales concluded very firm on rates ruling during the week. Top prices were: Greasy 16Jd, scoured 26id. Trade experts express the opinion that there is every prospect of the market continuing buoyant at the next series to be held next week. At the Adelaide sales higher prices and a keen general demand marked the opening of the sales. The estimated rise was 15 per cent on the previous Adelaide market in April and 5 per cent on the last sales in eastern States
