DIAMOND JUBILEE

INGLEWOOD SCHOOL EVENT. PROGRAMME OF FESTIVITIES. To celebrate the diamond jubilee of the Inglewood School, which commences with a service on Sunday, many people have already arrived. Numerous, letters wishing the jubilee every success have been received, including one from as far away as Etna Creek, Queensland. All arrangements are now finalised. On Sunday a procession of old and present pupils, will form up at the old school site at 2 p.m. and march to the town hall, where a thanksgiving service will be conducted, the whole district being invited to attend. The Rev. T. Raynor, ah old pupil of the school, will address the gathering. At the conclusion of the service wreaths will be laid first on the soldiers’ memorial and later in the cemetery, where the band will play “Garland of Flowers.” A combined choir will lead the singing of the “Te Deiim," and the anthem "King of Kings,” and hymns. The school choir will sing “God Defend New Zealand.” An orchestra of 12 instruments will accompany th singing and will play a march at the conclusion of the service. At 10.30 on Monday morning ex-pupils will attend the official opening and signing of the oil. The afternoon has been left free for various entertainments. At 8 p.m. on Monday evening the’ old girls’ reunion will be held at the parish hall. Musical items, old photos and an address by Mrs. W. J. Polson will be on the evening’s entertainment. On the same evening the old boys and others gather at the town hall for a smoke concert, at which Mr. Jack Sutherland will preside. A musical programme has been arranged. Starting at 12 noon on Tuesday, a procession comprising old pupils in many decades o? school attendance, dressed in the garb of their days," will leave the old school site for the new school. Bullocks and waggons will lead off and behind will be all sorts of vehicles, horses, bicycles, etc. A team of Maoris should add great , interest to the proceedings. School children will participate in the procession, but the committee realises that they will gain more amusement from watching it, so they will leave the procession at a given point and travel by a shorten route to where they can line up and watch it pass. The fire brigade and band will take part. After the arrival at the new school site efforts will be made to secure group and total photographs for souvenirs. At the back of the school there will be no limit to the entertainment. The Maori party will be performing and there will be all sorts of amusements and stalls. The band will play selections. Sports open to all-comers will be held.

To conclude the celebration of 60 years of progress in teaching the young, a jubi-. lee ball will be held in the town hall in the evening. A first-class orchestra has been engaged and splendid decorations carried out.
