MODEL AEROPLANES
LECTURE GIVEN AT OPUNAKE. Mr. L. Collingson, president, and Mr. G. P. S. Smith, secretary of the Taranaki Union of Model Flying Clubs, visit-, ed Opunake..on .Thursday ana gave lectures io the. flewly-formed Opunake Club: There was' a very large arid interested attendance. Mr. Clegg, presided. . Jsr. Smith explained, to the club that good organisation was very- necessary. Two good members of a committee were better than- ■ six inefficient- ones. It wa< the duty ’of the committee to attend all meetings, flying or otherwise, as if the committee did not appear, the members would be disappointed. Members should attend all meetings. Nothing was more disappointing to the committee for no members to come. Members should appear even if their planes were out of action. , . . Mr. Smith mentioned that the club could affiliate directly with the New Zealand Association or through the union at no extra cost. The union’s benefits were that all small club received help that the New Zealand Association could not give. The club, even if it did. not.

He also spoke as how to run the competitions and meetings. At .the request of members he gave a blackboard illustrated talk on the. building of planes, and explained the technique of model plane building. He stressed that all beginners should start with an easy plane such-as a “peanut” And, when they could; fly that for two mifiutes, try something harder. When they had conquered: that they should design their -own. , Mr. Clegg thanked the speaker for f his lecture.
